Living Room Refresh Ideas You Can Do For Under $200

You do not need new furniture to make a living room feel considered. These changes work with what you already own, and each one is costed so you can pick the order that suits your budget.

Most living rooms do not need replacing. They need editing. Before you spend anything, move every small object off the surfaces and live with the room bare for a day.

Start with light, not furniture

A single warm bulb change across your lamps does more for the mood of a room than a new rug. Aim for 2700K bulbs and at least three light sources at different heights.

1.Swap every bulb to the same warm temperature

Mixed bulb temperatures are the most common reason a tidy room still feels off. A pack of warm bulbs is usually under $20.

2.Add one low lamp beside seating

Light at sitting height makes a room feel occupied. Thrift stores are full of solid lamp bases for the price of a coffee.

3.Hang art lower than feels natural

Centre artwork at eye level from a seated position, not standing. It instantly makes walls feel intentional.

Then fix the textiles

Texture is what makes inexpensive rooms read as warm rather than sparse. Layer two or three fabrics that differ in weave, not in colour.

  • One heavy throw over the sofa arm
  • Two cushions in a coarser weave than your sofa
  • A flatweave rug large enough for the front legs of the seating
